BÖHLER Thermanit 13/04 Si MIG wire 1.2 mm / 15 kg (13410)

BÖHLER Thermanit 13/04 Si is a high-alloy solid welding wire designed for MAG welding and surfacing of martensitic stainless steels and steel castings with approximately 13% chromium and 4% nickel. It corresponds to the classification EN ISO 14343-A: G 13 4 and AWS A5.9: ER410NiMo (mod.). The material number of the filler material is 1.4351.

The weld metal has a soft martensitic character and is suitable for quenching and tempering. Thanks to the alloying with chromium, nickel, and molybdenum, it provides good strength, toughness, and corrosion resistance comparable to the corresponding 13Cr(Ni) grade steels. A characteristic feature of the wire is its high resistance to stress corrosion cracking, which is significant for dynamically loaded components operating in aquatic environments.

Thermanit 13/04 Si is designed for welding steels 1.4313 (X3CrNiMo13-4), 1.4317 (GX4CrNi13-4), 1.4407 (GX5CrNiMo13-4) and 1.4414 (GX4CrNiMo13-4), as well as steel castings ACI CA6NM and materials corresponding to UNS S41500. Suitability for a specific material is assessed based on its chemical composition, required mechanical properties, and the welding technological procedure.

The wire is primarily used in the production and repair of water turbines, impellers, blades, pumps, valves, fittings, and other components made of martensitic stainless steels. It finds application in hydropower, mechanical engineering, and repair shops where a combination of strength, toughness, and resistance to corrosive stress is required.

Welding is performed using the MAG (135) process with the use of shielding gas groups M12 or M13 according to EN ISO 14175. Direct current with positive polarity of the welding wire DC+ is used. The selection of the specific shielding gas and welding parameters must correspond to the required properties of the weld metal.

When welding corresponding martensitic steels, the manufacturer states that for wall thicknesses up to 10 mm, preheating may not be necessary, while for thicknesses over 10 mm, a preheat of approximately 100–150 °C is recommended. For other 13% Cr steels, preheating is chosen according to the base material. Subsequent heat treatment includes tempering or quenching and tempering according to the requirements of the base steel. Reference mechanical properties of the weld metal are given after tempering at 600 °C for 8 hours.

The wire diameter of 1.2 mm is suitable for professional welding and repair of medium-thick and thicker parts made of martensitic stainless steels. The wire is supplied on a B300 spool weighing 15 kg, intended for industrial MIG/MAG welding equipment.
