MIG Wire BÖHLER Thermanit MTS 3 1.2 mm / 15 kg (18031)
BÖHLER Thermanit MTS 3 is a high-alloy solid welding wire designed for MAG welding of heat-resistant steels with a chromium content of approximately 9%. It corresponds to classification EN ISO 21952-A: G CrMo91 and AWS A5.28: ER90S-B91. It is primarily used for joining and surfacing P91/T91 type steels, where creep resistance at elevated temperatures and good mechanical properties of the weld joint are required.
The wire is alloyed with chromium, molybdenum, vanadium, and niobium, containing approximately 9% Cr and 1% Mo. The weld metal has a martensitic structure and is intended for subsequent tempering. It is characterised by high temperature resistance and creep resistance up to 600 °C. Suitability for long-term loading at high temperatures must correspond to the properties of the base steel, the equipment design, and the approved welding procedure.
BÖHLER Thermanit MTS 3 is suitable for welding material 1.4903 – X10CrMoVNb9-1 and corresponding ASTM steels, particularly Grade P91 and Grade T91. It is used in the manufacture and repair of steam boilers, high-pressure piping, steam superheaters, turbine systems, pressure vessels and thermal power plant components. It also finds application in the chemical and petrochemical industries.
Welding is performed using the MAG (135) process with shielding gases of group M12, or alternatively M13 according to EN ISO 14175. Direct current with positive wire polarity DC+ is used. The selection of the specific gas must correspond to the required mechanical properties and the qualified welding procedure.
When welding P91/T91 steels, it is necessary to strictly follow the technological procedure. The technical data sheet specifies a preheat of approximately 200–250 °C and an interpass temperature of approximately 200–300 °C. Prior to subsequent heat treatment, controlled cooling of the weld is required according to the relevant procedure, which the technical data sheet specifies to a temperature of maximum 100 °C. Subsequent heat treatment involves tempering at 760 °C for 2 hours. Exact conditions must be determined based on the base material, wall thickness, and approved WPS.
The wire with a diameter of 1.2 mm is suitable for professional MAG welding of high-temperature piping systems and pressure components. It is supplied on a B300 spool weighing 15 kg for industrial welding equipment.
