Spot welders (Resistance Spot Welders) are specialized devices that use electric current to generate heat between two metal surfaces (electrodes), thereby welding them at specific points. This type of welding is very popular in the automotive and electronics industries, where efficient welding of thin sheets and various alloys is required without significant thermal impact.
✅ Advantages
No filler material – no wires or gas needed.
Clean process – minimal waste and no slag.
Speed and efficiency: Spot welding is a very fast process that allows for high productivity when welding thin sheets and metals (a weld is created in a fraction of a second).
Gentle welding: Ideal for materials that could be damaged by other welding methods, as it creates minimal thermal impact on surrounding materials.
Suitable for mass production: Spot welders are commonly used in automated production lines to create high-quality welds at low cost (consistent weld quality and placement in series production).
❌ Disadvantages
Visible electrode marks – may require surface finishing.
Cannot be used on complex shapes – access only to flat areas between electrodes.
Limited application: Spot welding is not suitable for thick materials or hard-to-reach locations (mainly suitable for thin sheets up to approx. 3 mm).
Precision required: Spot welding demands accurate parameter settings to ensure the desired quality and strength of the weld.
🛠️ Suitable welding materials
Carbon steel – car bodies and sheets up to approx. 3 mm.
Stainless steel – thin structural panels and sheets.
Aluminum sheets – especially in the automotive industry (requires special electrodes).
Spot welders are ideal for industrial production where speed and efficiency in welding thin metals are required. Thanks to their ability to perform quick and high-quality welds, they are invaluable in mass production and assembly lines.
