BÖHLER Thermanit JE-308LSi MIG wire 1.2 mm / 15 kg (1.4316) – 75712
BÖHLER Thermanit JE-308LSi is a professional solid stainless steel welding wire designed for MAG welding of austenitic stainless steels. It complies with the EN ISO 14343-A: G 19 9 L Si and AWS A5.9: ER308LSi classifications. The material number of the filler metal is 1.4316. The wire is intended for joining and surfacing both stabilised and non-stabilised 18Cr-8Ni steels, particularly AISI 304, 304L, 321 and 347.
The wire is alloyed with approximately 20% chromium and 10% nickel. Thanks to the low carbon content, maximum 0.02%, it helps limit the risk of intergranular corrosion of the weld metal. Increased silicon content improves the flowability of the molten metal, the wetting of the weld edges and the uniformity of the weld bead. The result is a high-quality weld with good mechanical properties and an aesthetic appearance.
BÖHLER Thermanit JE-308LSi provides very good feeding properties and a stable welding process. It is suitable for manual, mechanised and automated MAG welding, especially in the production of stainless steel structures, piping systems and industrial equipment. The 1.2 mm diameter allows for productive welding of medium and heavy-gauge stainless steel parts with a good deposition rate.
Suitable base materials include 1.4301 (AISI 304), 1.4306 (AISI 304L), 1.4311 (304LN), 1.4312, 1.4541 (AISI 321), 1.4546 and 1.4550 (AISI 347). The wire is used in the manufacture of stainless steel pipes, tanks, reservoirs, pressure vessels, process piping, machine parts and steel structures.
It finds application in the food, chemical, pharmaceutical, energy and mechanical engineering industries. The weld metal is characterised by good corrosion resistance and excellent toughness at very low temperatures. The manufacturer states usability down to -196 °C and a maximum application temperature of 350 °C. Suitability for specific operating conditions must correspond to the base material used and the requirements of the welded joint.
Welding is performed using the MAG (135) process with argon-based shielding gas mixtures, such as Ar + 2–3 % CO2 or Ar + 1–2 % O2 according to EN ISO 14175. The recommended shielding gas flow rate is 15–20 l/min. Direct current with positive wire polarity DC+ is used.
For welding, the manufacturer recommends a maximum heat input of 2.0 kJ/mm and a maximum interpass temperature of 150 °C. For common austenitic stainless steels, preheating and subsequent heat treatment are generally not required. It is important to maintain the cleanliness of the welded surfaces and, for pipe joints, to ensure root shielding where necessary.
For a diameter of 1.2 mm, the manufacturer specifies a range of 200–270 A and 26–30 V for spray arc welding. The wire is supplied in 15 kg spool packaging, suitable for professional and industrial MIG/MAG welding equipment.
