BÖHLER Thermanit JE-308LSi MIG Wire 0.8 mm / 5 kg (1.4316) – 75166
BÖHLER Thermanit JE-308LSi is a professional high-alloy solid welding wire designed for MAG welding of austenitic stainless steels. It complies with the EN ISO 14343-A: G 19 9 L Si and AWS A5.9: ER308LSi classifications. The material number of the filler metal is 1.4316. The wire is suitable for welding and surfacing of 18Cr-8Ni type stainless steels, particularly 304, 304L and related stabilised materials.
The welding wire is alloyed with approximately 20% chromium and 10% nickel. It features a low carbon content of up to 0.02%, which helps reduce the risk of intercrystalline corrosion of the weld metal. Increased silicon content ensures excellent fluidity, good wetting of the weld edges and a uniform appearance of the weld bead. The wire also provides very good feeding properties and a stable welding process.
BÖHLER Thermanit JE-308LSi is intended for welding stainless steels 1.4301 (AISI 304), 1.4306 (AISI 304L), 1.4311 (AISI 304LN), 1.4541 (AISI 321), 1.4546 and 1.4550 (AISI 347), as well as other compatible austenitic steels and steel castings. It is used in the production of stainless steel pipes, tanks, reservoirs, technological piping, food processing equipment, machine parts and steel structures.
The weld metal is characterised by good corrosion resistance and high toughness even at very low temperatures. The manufacturer states the possibility of use down to -196 °C and a maximum recommended operating temperature for wet corrosion of 350 °C. Suitability for specific operating conditions must correspond to the base material and the approved welding procedure.
Welding is performed using the MAG (135) process with argon-based shielding gases, such as Ar + 2–3% CO2 or Ar + 1–2% O2 according to EN ISO 14175. The recommended shielding gas flow rate is 15–20 l/min. Direct current with positive wire polarity DC+ is used.
The manufacturer recommends a maximum heat input of 2.0 kJ/mm and a maximum interpass temperature of 150 °C. Subsequent heat treatment is generally not required. When welding stainless steels, it is important to ensure the cleanliness of the weld joints and, depending on the type of joint, appropriate protection of the weld root.
The 0.8 mm diameter is suitable for precise and controlled welding of thinner stainless steel sheets, pipes, and structural components. For this diameter, the manufacturer specifies a range of 90–120 A and 18–22 V for short-arc welding. The wire is supplied in 5 kg packs on a spool, suitable for both professional and workshop use.
