BÖHLER UNION AlMg 5 MIG Wire 1.0 mm / 7 kg (ER5356) – 26357
BÖHLER UNION AlMg 5 wire is a professional solid aluminium welding wire alloyed with approximately 5% magnesium, designed for MIG welding of AlMg group aluminium alloys and selected AlMgSi alloys. It corresponds to classification EN ISO 18273: S Al 5356 (AlMg5Cr(A)) and AWS A5.10: ER5356. It provides high-quality weld joints with good strength, toughness and corrosion resistance.
A significant feature of BÖHLER UNION AlMg 5 wire is the high resistance of the weld metal to seawater, making it suitable for welding aluminium structures used in demanding outdoor environments. The weld metal also provides good colour matching with the base material after anodising, which is advantageous for the production of visible aluminium parts.
The wire is intended for welding aluminium alloys with a magnesium content of approximately up to 5%. Suitable base materials include EN AW-5019, EN AW-5754, EN AW-5086, EN AW-5454, EN AW-6060, EN AW-6005A, EN AW-6061, EN AW-6082 and EN AW-7020. It is also applicable to selected aluminium castings, such as EN AC-51300, EN AC-51400 and EN AC-51100. When welding heat-treatable alloys, the required mechanical properties and the suitability of the specific material combination must be taken into account.
BÖHLER UNION AlMg 5 finds application in the production of aluminium structures, tanks, reservoirs, marine components, trailers, bodies, transport vehicles and machine parts. Thanks to its good corrosion resistance, it is also suitable for components exposed to moisture and marine environments.
Welding is performed using the MIG (131) process with inert shielding gases I1 (argon) or I3 (argon and helium mixtures) according to EN ISO 14175. Direct current with positive wire polarity DC+ is used. Before welding, the surface of the base material must be thoroughly cleaned of oxides, grease and other impurities. For sheets with a thickness exceeding 15 mm, the manufacturer recommends preheating to approximately 150 °C, taking into account the specific alloy and technological procedure.
The 1.0 mm diameter is suitable for welding thinner and medium-thickness aluminium parts where good control of the weld pool is required. To ensure reliable feeding of the aluminium wire, U-groove feed rollers and guides designed for aluminium are recommended. The wire is supplied in 7 kg spool packaging for professional and industrial use.
